Introducing My New Company: FKB Media Productions Inc.
When I started FKB Media Solutions almost five years ago, my original vision was a one-woman operation. I would provide media training, PR, workshops and a few other media-related services to a steady stream of clients I was acquiring. But due to demand, I had to expand and hire staff. All of a sudden I was an employer, running a payroll and managing a team. I started to think big and continued to expand the services I was offering: livestream production and hosting, television scripting and production, agent representation, sponsorship acquisition and media strategy and rollout. Hmmmmm, what was happening here, suddenly I was building a media production house. And I was loving it!
However, I felt like I needed to separate some of my services and set up another company - FKB Media Productions Inc. The focus would be livestream, television and film production, script writing, pitch decks, business affairs, grant and sponsorship writing. My first project would be a documentary about Canada’s Godfather of Hip Hop Maestro Fresh Wes. I mean if you’re going to go big, why not start with telling the story of a living legend who put Canadian rap on the map. He had the first certified platinum album by a Black Canadian artist, Let Your Backbone Slide was the first single from a Canadian Hip Hop artist to go gold, he was the first Canadian rapper to have a Billboard Top 40 hit, first winner of the Juno for rap recording of the year, first rap song to be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. I made the rounds at the Banff World Media Festival and TIFF, pitching Backbone, a two-part docuseries and the response was amazing. I knew in my gut that I was making the right move.
A small dream is becoming a huge reality for me and I am here for it. Sure, there is a little (sometimes a lot) of anxiety that comes with scaling up. But staying comfortable is not an option if you want to grow. I am embracing this next chapter of my business journey and I can’t wait to see where it takes me in the coming years. What I do know is that the FKB Media brand is going to be big, really BIG. Just watch!
