June 14, 2023 (Toronto, ON) - Sistas Calling - a performing arts symposium that addresses anti-violence in the world, written and produced by Dr. Roz Roach - makes its premier stage performance on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 7PM at the Aga Khan Museum, 77 Wynford Drive, Toronto. The show touches on themes of anti-violence, anti-racism, and healing and is presented by Dr. Roz’s Healing Place (DRHP).
Sistas Calling tells the story of Rosa, a former DRHP resident who suffered abuse at the hands of her partner after migrating to Canada. “In 2021, there were 127,082 reported victims of familial violence,” states Dr. Roz Roach, founder and Executive Director of DRHP. “By putting on this show, I hope to encourage the public to help in the fight to stop the violence, and to empower them to start their own healing journeys.”
For over 20 years, Dr. Roz has utilized music as a therapeutic tool for her patients, allowing her to cultivate skills in writing, composing, and performance. Sistas Calling was created to educate the public about violence against women and children and its impact on victims. It uses anti-violence and anti-racist messaging as a catalyst to spark the conversation and generate new ideas towards prevention and healing. The main goal of the production is to inspire the audience to join the fight in working towards a non-violent global society.
Since 1981, Dr. Roz’s Healing Place has provided care to all those who identify as women, children, and youth escaping from abusive relationships. The facility offers access to a safe living environment as well as recovery treatment using a holistic approach including counselling, job training, life skills development, creative and educational activities.
Tickets for the show are $75 - $100 and includes access to the current exhibition, “Rumi and the Religion of Love.”
