Lunchtime On A Breakfast Show: Why I Love Live Television
Live Tv is always stressful, challenging and can be the most fun producing. It's where I got my start in journalism - on Citytv's Breakfast Television writing the news - often when it was breaking. I had the opportunity last week to use my television producing skills and merge them with my media consulting business. CP24 Breakfast wanted to do a live location healthy lunch segment as part of their Back To School series. Immediately I knew Certified Culinary Nutritionist Trudy Stone would be perfect for it. Four segments were required with host Jamie Gutfreund: it had to be in a large and visually appealing space, there needed to be an engaging activity to demonstrate as well as parents and children - after all this was a segment about them. My close friend Camille Issacs just had her kitchen renovated by Eugen Diaconu from CentrePoint Kitchens. Location- Check. Trudy rounded up a mix of kids/parents - Check. I came up with four segments that focused on different age ranges - K to High school and asked Trudy to create lunches specifically targeting the health benefits for those age groups. She came up with four lunches that were fun to make and were even taste tested and kid approved from our little audience on location. Check, Check, Check. There's an old saying about working with children and animals on live TV, and true to form we had some moments behind the scenes and on camera with the kids - especially when we talked about going back to school. Here's the link. Make sure to watch until the very end to see how one little boy named Aaron really felt about getting back in the classroom.
