Launching A Worldwide Video Campaign
A lot of my media pitches lately have been COVID-19 focused for obvious reasons. But this one was different...it was about hope and human connection. Domanique Grant is a young talented singer/songwriter. She was motivated by her mom to use her talents to bring inspiration to others during this world crisis. She wrote #TillWeSeeTheSun in 2 hours. She performed the song on March 30th for the residents of Toronto’s The Esplanade community, which was organized by arts organization Jamii Esplanade. The video of her riding a rickshaw, singing to buildings with people peering outside quickly went viral accumulating more than 30K views on YouTube. She also amassed local and national media coverage - CTV’s The National closed off the nightly newscast with the song, calling it “an anthem of our time.”
This inspired her to spread her message globally. Domanique decided to reach out to her friends around the world – and her friend’s friends – to get them to submit video of themselves lip singing Till We See The Sun and showing the starkness of their empty city, holding a sign of where they lived and their drawing interpretation of the sun. The response was remarkable! She received videos from 21 countries and 25 cities, including frontline healthcare workers, mothers and their children, people with hearing loss and many young people trying to cope with being alone.
We are now in phase two of getting the song to the masses and spreading her message. Domanique’s mission is to bring awareness to the thousands of youth struggling with being inside in what is supposed to be a time of growth and critical socialization in their life. This is why she is launching an initiative to connect young people with mentors, particularly artistic and creative youth. The final words on the video encourages any young person who is struggling, to reach out through Domanique’s website so that they can get help.
Domanique premiered the video on @CP24Breakfast and has begun her media campaign of interviews, appearances and radio play. Below is the video that’s bringing the world of self-isolation together.
