World Premiere of Till We See The Sun Video Connects 21 Countries Affected By COVID-19
Singer-Songwriter Domanique Grant’s uplifting song brings hope to those in self-isolation
For Immediate Release
May 7th, 2020 (Toronto, ON) – Today is the day that the world comes together and is inspired by the sentiment of singer-songwriter Domanique Grant’s original uplifting COVID-19 song Till We See The Sun through her video that brings together the global community in self-isolation. Inspired by her performance on March 30th for the residents of Toronto’s The Esplanade community, which was organized by arts organization Jamii Esplanade, the song and short video quickly went viral accumulating more than 30K views on YouTube as well as local and national media coverage - CTV’s The National closed off the nightly newscast with the song, calling it “an anthem of our time.”
“My mother was the one who encouraged me to write the song, she reminded me that I could use my music to bring light into people’s lives, to give them the sense of hope that I also needed to find. Two hours later I wrote Till We See the Sun.” The overwhelming response to Domanique’s song motivated her to build on this positive energy during this time of despair and uncertainty.
Based in Toronto, Domanique decided to reach out to her friends around the world – and her friend’s friends – to get them to submit video of themselves lip singing Till We See The Sun and showing the starkness of their empty city, holding a sign of where they lived and their drawing interpretation of the sun. The response was remarkable! She received videos from 21 countries and 25 cities, including frontline healthcare workers, mothers and their children, people with hearing loss and many young people trying to cope with being alone.
This last group speaks to Domanique’s mission to bring awareness to the thousands of youth struggling with being inside in what is supposed to be a time of growth and critical socialization in their life. This is why she is launching an initiative to connect young people with mentors, particularly artistic and creative youth. The final words on the video encourages any young person who is struggling, to reach out through Domanique’s website so that they can get help.
Domanique is available for interviews via Skype, FaceTime and Zoom for Television, Print, Radio and Digital media.
